Stainless Steel 201 is an austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel grade developed as a cost-effective alternative to traditional 300 series stainless steels. By reducing nickel content and adding manganese and nitrogen, SS 201 achieves improved strength while maintaining corrosion resistance suitable for general applications.
SS 201 round bars are widely used in fabrication, structural engineering, automotive components, furniture manufacturing, and architectural applications where moderate corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength are required.

SS 201 offers good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and mild chemical exposure. It performs well in dry indoor and low-humidity outdoor environments. However, it is not recommended for marine or chloride-rich conditions due to a higher risk of pitting corrosion compared to SS 304 or SS 201.
SS 201 provides moderate machinability. It exhibits work hardening characteristics, so appropriate tooling and controlled cutting speeds are recommended. Cold working significantly increases its strength, making it ideal for forming and bending operations.
SS 201 can be welded using TIG, MIG, and arc welding techniques. Controlled heat input and suitable filler materials ensure crack-free joints.
